Instructions

Book assembly instructions are from May 2002 Project of the month from “A Monthly Rubber Stampers Club”
Directions:
If you are going to stamp your cover paper, do it first. Apply adhesive to the wrong side of the paper you are going to use to cover the mat board (I used my Xyron), then cover the mat boards.

Measure & score the cardstock every 1" along the width (8 scores) and accordion fold. Glue one end to the inside of each cover & allow to dry.

Glue your end papers to the inside of the covers, covering the edge of the cardstock.

Decorate your envelopes on the flap side, then glue the back bottom edge to the spine on the FRONT side of each fold.

Apply glue between the folds of the spine on the OUTSIDE and place a heavy weight on top & allow to dry.
Add embellishments to your cover if you wish.

What I did different is I made my own envelopes so they would be the color I wanted. I took an old pre-made envelope, opened it up and cut the same shape from my own paper.  On some of my pages I colored my stamps with watercolor markers, “huffed” on them and stamped them, this way I could have an image with mult-colors.
All of the other images were stamped in black stamp ink.  Some of my images were cut within 1/16” of the image and then applied to my envelope.  Other images were stamped on squares of paper and then assembled into a four square box or cut into triangle and opposite colors put back together into a square.  For my cover papers I stamped the same image multiple times in black ink

"The New Hat"
Stamp Artist Chris Keys

Supplies:

  • Sunday International rubber stamps
  • Kaleidoscope Berry Blaze Pad and wedge sponge
  • Black Ink Pad – Stazon or Memories
  • A4 White semi-gloss card
  • Mauve and Pink Pearlescent Card
  • Purple card
  • Double-sided tape and Sticky Fixers
  • Stickles or Glitter Glue
  • Narrow Purple Ribbon and four beads
  • Tiny Peel-off Butterflies (optional)

    Directions:
  1. Lightly sponge the white semi-gloss card lightly using the Berry Blaze pad.
  2. Stamp out all the images onto the white card making sure you stamp two of the flower corner, then color in the frame and flower images, using felt tips in toning shades of purple, mauve, lilac and pink, with a bit of green for leaves. Only color in the hat and beads on the figure.
  1. Cut out all the images. Cut all around the edge of the figure and then, using double-sided tape, stick her onto a piece of mauve pearlescent card, then place that behind the frame and stick together.
  2. Cut a piece of purple card slightly bigger than the frame and stick the frame onto it. Then cut a piece of pink pearlescent card just slightly bigger than the purple card and stick the whole onto that,
  3. Next take the card that is going to be your basis and stamp all over the front with the flower image, using the Berry Blaze pad. This won't show very much, but it will just take off the plainness of the card.
  4. Then stick your layered frame onto the purple card.
  5. Stick the flower corners to the right-hand side of the card, using Sticky Fixers or similar, overlapping them slightly.
  6. Punch a hole in the front of the left-hand corner and attach the ribbon, onto which you will have secured two small beads at each end.

"Birds of a Paradise Flock Together"

Stamp Artist
Tracy Callahan

 Supplies:

  • Sculpy oven bake clay (white 1.25lbs box) available at most craft stores.
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Sponge
  • Brush
  • Luna Lights (Stamp Oasis): Yellow, Dark Blue, Light Blue, Dark Purple, Light Purple, Gold, Copper, Teal
  • Rub -n- Buff: Pearl Blue
  • Rubber Stamps: Small Bird of Paradise Size A, Bamboo Stock Size A, Stamp Zia.
Bird of Paradise Size XL, Rubber Stamps of Arkansas.
  • Gloss Spray
  • Fibers

  1. Work clay until soft. Roll out to the shape which is pleasing to you. I used nearly this whole box of clay. You really do not want the top to be smooth, the character of the piece is created by the texture.
  2. Lay stamps on clay until you have an idea where you want to position them. The Bird of Paradise (Stampzia) was stamped 3 times. The Bamboo Stalk (Stamp Zia) I used 7 or 8 times just stamping portions of the stamp. This is a very easy techniques when using unmounted stamps. When the branches meet just stop pushing the stamp in the clay. Any areas of the stamp you don't want can easily be rubbed off with your finger. Stamp the Bird of Paradise (Rubber Stamps of Arkansas.)
  3. Make your holes to hang your fibers from, and 2 holes at the top so you can hang it.
  4. Bake at 250 degrees for 40 minutes
  5. When cool paint the whole piece with Black acrylic paint (I use a sponge) being sure not to let the paint fill in your deep lines. Then let dry.
  6. What To Paint
    Flower:
    Bird of Paradise
    - paint them copper then highlight with Yellow.
Center of Flower - paint with Dark Purple.
Stem - mix 1 drop of Dark Blue, Light Blue, and Yellow.
    Bamboo stalks - gold
Bamboo leaves - mix 1 drop of Light Blue and Yellow.
Bird of Paradise - paint with Dark Purple, Light Purple, Light Blue, Dark Blue, Light Blue, and Yellow to make the teal color.
    Beak - Yellow and Cooper
  7. Rub - n - Buff (Pearl Blue) just barely put color on top of finger and lightly rub over background. Basically hitting the high spots so your texture will show.
  8. Sign your work.
  9. Spray with a sealer (optional).
  10. Add fibers and hanger.

    Time to complete: 2 hours

"Fairy Dreams"
Stamp Artist Karen R. Brooks

Supplies:

  • Heat Resistant Acetate
  • Powder
  • Sunday International Fairy stamp from Fairies sheet – item FS55
  • Colorbox Dragonfly Black Pigment Ink
  • Ranger Black Sparkle Embossing Powder
  • Ultra fine translucent glitter
  • Art Glittering System Designer Dries Clear Adhesive w/metal tip
  • Red-line adhesive
  • 3-D effect paper
  • white, lavender print and yellow print paper

Directions:

  1. Use powder on acetate to keep embossing powder from sticking to non-stamped areas.
  2. Stamp fairy on acetate w/black ink. Emboss with black sparkle.
  3. Work on non-stamped side of acetate, so that the glittered stamp lines will show. Using Dries Clear Adhesive fill in areas of image; stamped image on reverse will show the lines. Apply glitter to adhesive areas. The glue is white, so it's very easy to see where to apply the glitter. I prefer letting light areas dry before glittering dark areas because the dark glitter sometimes adheres to the light glittered areas. Maybe it's better to glitter dark areas first, I didn't try it.
  4. Since the glitter is translucent it's best to line the glittered side with white paper. After the adhesive is completely dry apply white paper with red-line adhesive to light glittered areas to keep the colors true. (The easiest way to do that is to stamp the image on white paper and cut out the parts or all of the stamp that need to be lined). I experimented with several colors of paper behind the fairy, white kept the colors the truest – but other colors gave interesting effects.
  5. The front of the image is the stamped/embossed non-glittered side. Apply the image to 3-D look paper. Note: the 3-D paper is also translucent so the color used behind it will change the way it looks. Layer on coordinating background papers.
