"Watercolor Hummer"
Stamp Artist - Bea Rosenleaf

Supplies & Rubber Stamps:

  • Rubber Stamps
Stamps by The Angel Company - All Things of Nature (T-907)
  • StampZia Color Washes - Malachite/Tanzanite/Amethyst
  • Twinkling H2Os - Summer Breeze/Blue Grass/Sweet Lavender/Jasmine
  • 100# White Cardstock
  • Black Cardstock
  • White Watercolor paper
  • Square Brads - Black
  • Krylon Gold Leafing Pen
  • Versa Mark Ink Pad
  • Black Embossing Power
  • Heat Gun
  • Fine-spray water bottle
  • Paint Brush
  • Stipple Brush
  • Adhesive of Choice

Directions:

  1. Cut black cardstock to 5 ½" x 8 ½", fold in half to create a card 5 ½" x 4 ¼". Cut watercolor paper to 5 ¼" x 4".
  2. Create background using Color Washes. Starting with the lightest and working to the darkest, spray colors on watercolor paper and lift, tipping paper to allow colors to run (don't let run too much or they will muddy, but just enough to blend nicely). Lift off with a dry paper towel. If you want a darker background, repeat the process - just let each layer dry well in between or they will muddy. You can speed up drying with a heat gun if you are impatient like I am! Let paper dry well when you get the background to look like you want.
  3. Stamp Hummingbird with Flower onto the white cardstock cut to 2 3/4'' x 2 1/4''. (Make sure you use the heavier cardstock due to the watercolor process.) Using a paint brush and water, color the bird with Summer Breeze, let dry. Color the flower with Sweet Lavender, let dry. Now highlight the bird with Blue Grass and spritz with fine spray of water - let blend on its own (don't pick up paper). Repeat on flower using Jasmine. Let this dry well. Use stipple brush loaded with Summer Breeze and Jasmine and lightly stipple the background around the bird and flower. (You may want to stipple a little paint off the brush onto a scrap piece of paper so it isn't so dark when you do the background.) When this is dried well, layer on black cardstock. Set aside.
  4. Take verse and using versamark, stamp onto the background. Sprinkle with black embossing powder and heat until melted. Attach 3 black brads centered across top of verse (set on point to make them look like diamond shape).
  5. Create border with gold leafing pen around the background. Layer on black card front.
  6. Attach the bird to card front at an angle.

"Folding ATC"
Stamp Artist - Evelyn Duncan

Directions:

Inspiration:
I like making fun and unusual Artist Trading Cards (ATC's) and I've recently started stamping art dolls; so, I decided to create this unfolding art doll that would still be considered an ATC. Once folded, this piece fits the traditional ATC size of 2 ½ x 3 ½ inches. Attaching the parts with brads to a playing card base gave me the necessary format to achieve the goal.

Instructions:

  1. I stamped the doll onto sturdy white cardstock.
  2. Then colored the various parts with the Zig Photo Twin Markers.
  3. Next I distressed a playing card by scuffing it with a fingernail sanding sponge block.
  4. A slight "polished stone" effect was created on the card surface.
  5. Scribble Turquoise, Lime and Pink sharpie markers onto three separate sections of an old discarded CD (do this on the shiny side of the CD).
  6. Spritz the 91% alcohol onto the CD to wet the scribbled Sharpie inks
  7. Spritz a white craft felt square with alcohol and rub it through one of sharpie colors on the CD then daub it onto several sections of the playing card.
  8. Repeat spritzing and transferring of color as many times as needed to get a pleasing background on your card.
  9. Additional blending can be done on the card by lightly spritzing it with the alcohol and daubing the colors with the felt pad.
  10. Position doll parts on playing card and punch holes in appropriate location with a 1/16 micro Hole punch.
  11. The doll parts were attached to the card with 1/16" micro brass brads.
  12. Mat the playing card with a 2 ½ x 3 ½ inch piece of black cardstock.
  13. Fold parts into the card so it can be stored in a traditional ATC sleeve or sheet

Folding Instructions: Fold Arms in first then head then legs.
