Spotlight Stamping

My friend asked me if I'd seen the article on Spotlight Stamping by Judi Kauffman in the April 2002 issue of Stamping Arts & Crafts that featured Stampa Rosa's House Mouse stamps and project techniques by Julie Goodwin.   I hadn't, but got myself a copy and thought I would dust off some of my favorite "busy" stamps and give this easy, yet fun new technique a try.

Use any color cardstock you like, let your imagination go.

In the sample shown to the right, I used black cardstock looking for a more dramatic effect, and also to put a twist on this technique.

Step One - Stamped Zia's Rectangle Collage onto black cardstock, using white ink, and emboss in white. See figure A

Step Two- Stamp the image again, only this time, stamp it onto white cardstock, with black ink, and embossed in black.

Step Three -Color the entire image that was stamped on white cardstock, (you don't have to color the entire image if you already know which section you are going to spotlight, you can color just that area.) See Figure A

Step Four - After choosing which area you would like to "spotlight", using a black felt tip marker, trace a circle and cut out. See figure C

Be creative!   You don't have to have a cirlce as your "spotlight" shape.  One one of the cards I made (see samples below) I used a burst shape that I made in a photo program, printed out on cardstock, and made myself a stencil.

Once you have cut a "spotlight" shape, mount your colored cut out on top of the corresponding piece of your card using foam tape for a 3D effect.

Each of the cards shown on this page created by me (Diane), were colored using chalks.
