Scratch Board Art - By Holly Dare
  1. Stamp Sweet Stampen’s Elegant Victorian lady RC3085 in the center of a 5 x 7 clayboard piece. Use white or other light ink and lightly heat set
  2. Scratch in the design using a scratch knife.
  3. Rub off any remaining ink with very soft cloth.
  4. Stamp Sweet Stampen’s Daisy Butterfly RC4000 numerous times with white ink around the edge creating a frame of flowers. Stamp the four corners first and then fill in. Mask where necessary. Lightly heat set.
  5. Scratch in the flowers with a scratch knife.
  6. Rub off any remaining ink.

While at a craft trade show, I was given a sample of Scratchboard, a piece of wood covered with white clay and then India ink. A scratch tool is used to remove the ink and reveal the white clay underneath. Being a stamper, I had to try this medium with my favorite stamps.

Supplies:

  • Sweet Stampen's Elegant Lady Image (#RS2095)
  • Scratch Art Board (available at art supply stores)
  • Scratch Art Tool
  • White Ink
  • Heat tool
  • Acrylic Spray on Fixative

Scratch Board Art
By Holly Dare
  1. Stamp the lady in white ink on the Scratch board.
  2. Heat set. This will not be permanent! Do not touch.
  3. Using the scratch tool, scratch in the outline of the major lines.
  4. Use a VERY SOFT damp cloth to remove the ink.
  5. Scratch in the details of the dress.
  6. Scratch in the foreground.
  7. The tree was scratched in freehand but you can stamp on in the same manner as the lady.
  8. Scratch in the birds. Think "Golden Arches!"
  9. Seal your work with 2 -3 coats of a spray on acrylic fixative.
  10. Frame - no glass needed.

    TIP
If you mess up: purchase black India ink and fill in the accidentally scratched area.
    If you want color:
Dr. Martin's makes India inks in colors. Simply paint on. Then seal.
