"Zia's Denim Jacket"
October's project of the month is compliments of Zana Clark of Stamp Zia.

"Zia's Denim Jacket"
by Zana Clark of Stamp Zia

Materials

  • Stamp Zia Stamps: Large Waterlily Sphere, Small and Large Day and Night Leaf Pair, Dragonfly
  • Denim jacket/blazer
  • Masking tape, foam tipped brushes, small paint brush, black permanent marker
  • Fabric acrylic paints - aqua, purple, blue, greens and white
  • Zimprints black permanent ink
  • Fabric markers
    * If this clothing item will only be dry cleaned, you can use any acrylic paints. If you are    going to launder the item, use fabric acrylic paints and heat set.

Technique:
   Background Base
1. Using masking tape, mask off sections on the back of your denim jacket. If you want an uneven edge tear your masking tape in half while it is down on the fabric.
2. Apply paint with a foam tipped brush, stroking the paint away from the taped edge.
3. Dry with a hair dryer. Remove tape.
4. Repeat this process with each color. Make sure to overlap your paint colors till you have a background base of painted colors.
   Stamped Images
1. Stamp the Large Waterlily Sphere on the background base using Zimprints permanent black ink. Fill in any "skips" with a black permanent marker. Use a small paint brush to fill in image areas with paints. Use fabric markers for details.
2. Stamp the Dragonfly 3-4 times on the jacket using Zimprints permanent black ink. Fill in any "skips" with a black permanent marker. Use a small paint brush to fill in image areas with paints. Use fabric markers for details.
3. Using a foam tipped brush apply green acrylic paint to the Large Night Leaf Pair and stamp it on the jacket. Repeat this process changing the color of greens and switching to the Large Day Leaf Pair. Overlap Leaf Pair images to create depth.
4. Sign your work!
