A perpetual calendar is most often used
to record annual days such as birthdays and anniversaries. This
calendar project is great for those of you who like to make cards
ahead of time. The book gives you a way to organize your cards
and know where they are when the time comes. The calendar would
also make a terrific gift, especially if you included some handmade
cards tucked in the pockets.
Stampland provides many stamps in a variety
of themes, so it's easy to create a unified collage look on pages.
Additionally, the images are crisp and great quality! For this
project, I chose the mail theme, which goes so well with the
purpose of the calendar.

Dye ink pads
3 sheets of Canson Mi-Tintes Paper (Eggshell
color was used)
8 pieces of text-weight paper (for printing
out calendar dates)
Home made color spray wash (see AMRSC
tips for directions)
Alphabet stamps, die cuts, or rub-on letters
for month names
Adhesive
2 pieces of book board 10 ¼ "
x 7 3/8"
Paper to cover book board (Arches 90 lb
hot press water color was used.)
binding system or print shop
Basic Steps:
Cut Mi-Tintes paper into half to get a
20" x 12 ¾" sheet.
Fold the 12 ¾ " side of the
paper up to within 1" of the top edge of the paper to make
a 20" x 7" sheet (see photo).
Fold paper in half in the other direction
to end up with a 10" x 7" piece of folded paper (see
photo). These are now called pocket pages.
Print out calendar pages. Use the MS Word
document provided, or create your own. You will need 7 of the
31 day months, 4 of the 30 day months and one 29 day month.
Unfold pocket pages once and spray with
a color wash. Also spray the calendar pages. Allow them to dry.
Trim calendar pages to desired size (7
¼ wide by 7 tall for the sample pages shown here).
Add the names of the months to the pocket
pages (stamp, attach die cuts, or rub letters on). Hint - Test the inks you plan to use on a scrap of the
sprayed text paper to see how dark the ink will be. You want
to avoid making too dark of an impression where you will write
information.
Stamp and decorate calendar pages and
pocket pages. Adhere calendar pages to pocket pages. In the sample,
a similar style was used on each page to provide continuity throughout
the book.
Decorate paper you will use to cover book
board. In the sample, a light green color wash was used and then
a soft peach color was applied by direct-to-paper in some areas.
The background stamping was also added at this time.
Glue the decorated paper to the book board.
Add any final stamping, such as the "letters" focal
point on the front cover.
Bind the book, catching the loose edges
of the pocket pages in the binding. This will close up your pockets
and make the book functional.
