For those who love embellishments and like the idea of making your own, I'd like to introduce you to my favorite new toy-- push moulds by Krafty Lady from Australia. They are finely detailed art moulds distributed by After Midnight (www.amstamps.com) in the USA. They have a built-in release agent and are made of a flexible material, so you can just pour or press your material in and a great embellishment pops out. These beautifully diverse tools can be used with a number of products including: hot glue, polymer clay, paper clay, embossing powder, soap, candle mix, or plaster- just about anything that can be poured or kneaded can be used.

My favorite thing to put into these moulds is Embossing Opals. They are thick ground embossing enamels that retain their shine, so they look like polished stone. They come in a great variety of colors packaged in kits called Opalettes that blend wonderfully together.

My last new find is Glass Acts. These are shards of glass, sanded until they have the look of sea glass, and because the surface has texture, they grab the Embossing Enamel wonderfully.

These products make a great looking addition to any piece of artwork. Use them on cards, jewelry, altered books, tags, boxes - anything your imagination can come up with. They have so many great designs that they can fit anyone's taste, and they have an amazing amount of detail.

  • Embossing Opals - After Midnight Stamps
  • Art push moulds - After Midnight Stamps
  • Glass Acts - After Midnight Stamps
  • Glossy Accents - Ranger

    Rubber Stamps by:
  • Sunday International & After Midnight Stamps
  • Scotch tape - artist's own
  • Sandpaper - artist's own
  • Alcohol inks - Ranger
  • Metallic leafing pens - Ranger
  • Piece of felt attached to woodblock with Velcro
  • Various boxes
  • Assorted beads
  • Wire

Directions:
Preheat melting pot, scatter different colors of Opals in areas and allow it to melt.

Apply tape handle to back of Glass Acts by folding scotch tape in middle and adhering ends to glass. Place on top of melted Opals and allow to heat for 10-20 seconds or until Opals stick to glass. Lift out using handle. Place on firm surface. Press un-inked stamp into warm Opals to give it texture if desired.

Add more Opals if needed to fill mould. Let melt. Working very fast, pour hot Opals into mould using spatula to push it out of the melting pot.

Quickly take backside of another mould and push it on top of mould with the hot opals in it. This will flatten the back and press opals into the detail.

See step-by-step instructions below along with more art examples.

Step 5
Once cool, the moulded Opal pops right out.

Glue moulded opal with glossy accents to Glass Acts, wrap with wire and beads as desired. Finish as a pin, a magnet, glue to a card or use as embellishment to your box.

Step 6

Step 7
Sand acrylic box until opaque. Sand paint off of tin. Clean with soap and water. Attach a piece of felt to a wood block with Velcro. Place drops of alcohol inks and metallic leafing pen onto the felt.

Tap color all over box. Repeat as needed to cover entire box.

Step 8

Step 9
Glue beads to the bottom of the box for feet and Moulded Opal and Glass Acts to the top. Add beads and wire as desired.
