"Glass Ornaments - Caught in Crystal Technique"
November's project of the month is compliments of Stamp Artist Deb Cowan.

Click Here to see a different approach to this technique.

Materials Needed:

  • Future Floor Finish
  • Thermal Acetate Transparencies
  • Glass ornament blanks
(available at Michaels or Jo Ann)
  • Mica pigment powder
  • Ultra Fine Glitter
  • Xyron or adhesive sheets
  • plain white tissue paper
  • paper towels
  • paint brush
  • heat gun
  • scissors

Stamp Artist - Deb Cowan

Stamp or photocopy your image onto a piece of acetate. Run through a Xyron machine or apply an adhesive sheet to the "up: side. Center ornament over the image, making sure hole for hanger is in correct position.

Turn the piece over, glass on the bottom and reverse side of acetate up. pour a puddle of Future on the piece.

Sprinkle with mica powder (Pearl EX Brilliant Gold and Super Copper were used here.)

Swirl paint brush through powders to blend and cover piece, then sprinkle with glitter.

Set a piece of tissue on top and blot with paper towel to remove any bubbles. Allow to dry ( you can speed this up with a heat gun, but be careful not to get it too close - you could melt the acetate or break the glass with the heat).

Cut the piece away from the excess acetate and tissue.

Add another coat of Future to the back to seal.

Poke a hole through the acetate over the hole in the glass. Add a ribbon hanger.

Variation: Instead of doing the Crystal technique on the back, simply coat with clear glitter adhesive and sprinkle glitter over - allow to dry.
