"Elements of Zia"
Stamp Artist - Cheryl McVeigh

INSTRUCTIONS: Spounce bottom of box with copper glaze; let dry. Meanwhile, spounce box top with black gesso, set aside. Paint inside of box and box top with black gesso. Protect every other panel and bottom of box by masking with painter’s tape; also apply tape to box top at outer-most edges, forming an interior hexagon for use as a drawing guide. With cork-backed ruler, draw hexagon along tape line with Berol marker. Stamp center of box top with Heron and emboss with verdigris powder. Protect line and heron with hexagon-shaped wax paper and carefully re-tape.

Spounce untaped panels with Folk Art Metallic Aquamarine; let dry. Stamp night fern with verdigris glaze on all three untaped panels in random fashion. Apply bronze dots randomly. Then stamp butterfly in appealing position on all three panels, and black detail-emboss. Paint butterflies with paints and inks. Let dry and remove tape. Protect painted panels with masking tape, leaving remaining three bare panels exposed for painting; spounce with copper glaze and let dry. Stamp the night and day gingko sticks with paints and inks, as desired. Stamp heron once on each panel with tinted embossing ink. Emboss with emerald cloissone granules. Paint heron with desired colors. Let dry and remove all tape.

One at a time, on each edge of the cover, stamp portions of the gingko branch with tinted embossing ink starting on the top, holding stamp in place, then wrap stamp to side edge while tilting the cover in upright position. Stop and emboss with Peacock powder. Using post-it notes, cover what’s already been embossed, and repeat for next five sides. Paint insides of gingko leaves as desired. Remove all tape and wax paper covering center heron. Paint inside hexagon lines with verdigris glaze; paint sun with gold calligraphy ink, and heron, if desired. This one is left unpainted. Seal heron with PPA.

Paint round wood findings for box legs, let dry and glue to bottom of box at every other corner. Use Berol marker to paint bottom edge of box top, and top edge of box bottom. Let dry. Hand-paint kanji symbol “Love” using gold calligraphy ink.

keepsake box - decorative tissue paper
Stamp Artist - Diane Miller

Materials needed:
  • Inexpensive Box (this one was 39 cents)
  • Decorative Tissue Paper
Tissue paper from RedStick , tell her I sent you!
  • Elmers Glue
  • Water
  • Paint Brush

After watching RedStick demo this quick and easy technique at the Atlanta Stamp show last year, I finally tried it myself.   RedStick was right ... it was was so easy, quick and fun!

Mix Elmer's glue, 2 parts glue to one part water. You don't have to be overly careful mixing, I actually mixed my glue and water in a plastic film container by adding glue and then drops of water until it was the consistency I wanted. Mixture will be thin, but not runny.

Tear your decorative tissue paper in pieces about the size of a half dollar and set aside.

Use your paint brush and apply your glue/water mixture to one small area at a time. Apply a piece of tissue paper to the coated area of your box, and then apply a coating of glue/water mixture directly on top of the tissue paper you just applied. Coat the next area of your box ... and then your next piece of tissue, etc. Make sure to slightly overlap your pieces of tissue paper to avoid seams. When you are finished you will have a beautiful gift or keepsake box!
