Stamp Artist Cherylynn Moser
August's Stamp Artist of the Month

Stamp Zia Heron Head, Stamp Francisco Ginkgo Leaf, Luna Lights by Stampa Rosa, Gold Webbing Spray, Studio II Inks

Directions:
Spray 11x14 black mat with Gold webbing spray. Set aside. Paint 8x10 glossy black cardstock with Luna Lights Purple, Teal and Blue. Accent with Gold Luna Lights. When dry, stamp Gingko leaf in both black and silver permanent ink randomly over painted cardstock. Create background paper on white glossy cardstock using Studio II reinkers and a Gold Krylon pen. Cut into a triangle, edge with Krylon pen and crimp using Fiskars Crimper. Stamp Heron Head once on purple paper and once on white cardstock. Cut purple paper into circle, mount onto triangle. Color other Heron Head with Radiant Pearls. Cut out Head portion only and mount onto purple circle. Affix triangle onto Luna Lights cardstock. "Heron Valentine"
Stamp Artist Sally Rarback

I stamped the image of the Heron head on scrap paper and cut it in a straight line from the point of the beak to a place on the neck where it would create the shape of half of a "heart". I then stamped the image again, and turned it over and traced with black pen the same part of the image and cut it similar to the first image (thereby getting the mirror image of the first half).

I put the two halves together to create a heart-shape. I repeated this five times, in a circular pattern, placing the points of the beaks toward the center of the circle. Since my traced lines looked quite different from the stamped lines, I decided to cover the general shape with solid color to hide the hand-drawn lines. When I had arranged the pattern-of-five hearts to be
symmetrical I scanned it into my computer and made several copies to play with, cutting out different parts to see what arrangement I liked best.

The final card uses a print-out from the computer, but all of the original was hand-stamped. I used a smooth dark purple card-stock from Fox River on which to print the heron-pattern.

To color the pattern, I used an Eberhard Faber product called Metallic Farb Pulver (the equivalent of
Powdered Pearls).

I used Zia's technique, shown in her video, "Stamp Zia Creates with Powdered Pearls", of dipping a blender pen into the powder and drawing the powder out from a corner of the image toward the open areas and blending it into the paper with my finger.

I then cut the pattern out with an Xacto Knife and mounted it onto Royal Mauve Linen-Weave card-stock (from Howard, I think).

I prepared a second piece of purple Fox River card-stock, printing the Foliage Triangle on it in a dark violet ink, using a stamp-positioner to line up the pattern precisely. Cutting a ¼" outline around the heron-pattern on the mauve paper, I mounted it onto the foliage patterned paper.

I then outlined the cutout with a thin line of dark purple Art Institute Glitter. I mounted this card onto gold cardstock. I took a third piece of dark purple cardstock and colored the edges with my dark violet Tombow marker.

I mounted the whole piece onto this. I felt limited by my 8.5" x 11" paper, and wished I had larger sized paper at hand.

"Life's Inklinks"
Stamp Artist Jeanne Arsenault
Directions:
Glue cloth to canvas board folding over edges and gluing on the back also. Stamp DTP black images on white cardstock, cut out, paint with watercolors and let dry.

Apply
radiant pearls for shine. When dry, glue images to board. Cut and glue desired trim to edges of the board. Add beaded accents, glitter, metallic marker. If you have lost existing stamp lines under paint, "missed", over painted or had an unplanned stroke, use a black pen (one that won't bleed, I used a regular bic ink pen) to bold up lines or add shading to the images.

Using
Stamp Zia's "Heron Head" stamp, emboss on white card stock using black ink and powder. Paint the heron using Radiant Pearls paint and cut the background out using a craft knife.

Cut a disc using matte metallic silver card stock and glue the heron to the silver disc. Then cut a larger disc using black card stock and randomly color this using pigment
powders (colors used- silver, sapphire and turquoise).

Glue the silver disc to the larger disc. Using an 8.5"x11" piece of glossy black card stock, cut a triangle using the entire length and width of the paper.

Randomly "smoosh" silver ink around the edges the triangle and emboss with clear powder. Cut a small triangle, again using the matte metallic silver card stock - attach to the large triangle and then glue the disc to the triangle.

Embellish with a feather, beads and tassel. I used a
small piece of bamboo and chenille yarn for the hanger.
