Dr. Ph. Martin's Spectralite Acrylics

    Stamp Artist - Martha Myers

Stipple Doc Martin's Spectralite Acrylics onto cardstock.

    Stamp Calla Lilies (
gg designs) onto the painted cardstock and emboss with gold sparkle powder. Cut out.

Cut out a panel from the painted cardstock and glue onto a red card. Mount lilies onto a red panel that is edged with gold leafing pen.

Cut right side of card with decorative scissors and emboss edge. Cut another strip of the painted cardstock and glue to inside of card.

Adhere Calla Lilies panel to front of card.

I have fallen in love with these paints in the past couple of weeks.  They are unlike any other paint I’ve ever used.  Not only do they provide super rich coverage and deep, vibrant colors (in the Doc Martin’s tradition), but they completely transform the texture of your paper into a glossy, almost leathery feel.  I can’t really describe what the paper feels like when the paints dry but I love it!

You can use the painted papers for backgrounds and/or you can stamp directly onto the dried surface.  The surface is perfect for stamping alone and/or embossing.  One advantage to this product that I’ve found is that pigment ink dries on it.

Once the painted paper has dried to a glossy finish, you can stamp onto it with any ink and it will dry.  The Doc Martin’s Inkpaks (stamp pads) work exceptionally well with this product.

Here’s the really cool thing about this product though. You can paint it directly onto a CD and it will cover and dry on the CD.  But, the “holographic shine” from the CD still shines through the paint.  This is a totally awesome effect in my opinion (and something that doesn’t show up in a picture).

One thing to watch for with these paints is that they dry very quickly (this can be an advantage or a disadvantage).  You can use them to color in a stamped image and they dry so fast you won’t have to worry about paint smudges or smears.  The fast drying time also means you don’t have to wait when laying down layers of color. However, because of their fast drying time, they don’t blend well once you lay down your color unless you work very quickly. However, you can blend them on your “palette” first and then paint your image if you want a blended look.

I’ve tried to show samples of some of the possibilities for these paints, but pictures don’t do them justice. The cards shown were created by “swiping” the paints across a sheet of cardstock. I then stamped on top of the dried paper and layered onto another panel of the dried paper. I used the paint to color in the stamped Zia Flies. So simple and quick!

For the CD shown above, I just stippled the paint onto the CD in layers. Once the first layer was dry, I added another color, and so forth until the CD was covered. I then stamped on top of the CD (using the Stamp Zia Foliage Corner) and decorated it with a ribbon and some tiny beads. The “shine” you see in the picture is actually a layer of green Spectralite paint. The underlying shine from the CD wouldn’t come through in the picture but it’s there in the actual piece.

These paints are so unique...I would recommend them to anyone. Even beginning stamp artists will be able to create vibrant pieces because they are so easy to use.

    Happy Stamping!

    Martha Myers

The cards shown use the following images: Stamp Camp "Koi", Magenta "Floral Square", PSX "Spring Saying", and Stamp Zia's "Zia Fly" and "Anthurium Stalk".
