Instructions:
Background:
Ink the Gracious Lady stamp in canary, orange and magenta. Spritz
with water and stamp on white card to give a watery effect. Do
this 4 times. Repeat this technique once on vellum, but this
time use the second impression so it's not too wet.
Stamp PARIS faintly in magenta, spritzed with water, across top
left and right corners.
Tear the vellum image in half diagonally and stick to top left
and bottom right corners.
Wrap the background in orange ribbon.
Layer the background onto red paper and then onto the black card
and edge with black glitter using narrow double-sided tape.
Main image:
Stamp Gracious Lady twice in black ink and colour in with watercolour
pencils - blend with water and a brush. Cut out one lady and
mount onto main image with 3D sticky fixers. Layer onto card
edged with black glitter as before and then onto red paper stuck
onto card. Punch 5 small holes along the bottom.

"Midsummer Bouquet "
Actual Framed Size 18x12"
Stamp Artist - Diane Moore

Cut cold-press watercolor paper a bit
larger than size desired and using masking tape, tape to painting
board. Create background by laying in areas of very wet watercolor
(Daniel Smith) allowing the colors to flow together in a controlled
fashion to avoid muddiness of color. While color is still wet
spritz with rubbing alcohol to aid in the fusion of colors. Set
aside to dry.
Prepare pressed flowers using micro
fleur (A Stampers Dream). Set aside.
Once watercolor background is dry, add
additional color where and if needed. Mix powdered pearls (Lemon
Tree) with a bit of leftover watercolor from your palette and
using a very wet brush flick spots of color onto the background.
If desired add bits of Perfect FX (Marco's Paper) for added sheen.
Stamp vase (image-maker unknown) onto
cold pressed watercolor paper using Vivid! Dye ink in Plum.(Clearsnap)
Heat set image. Using watercolors paint in vase image (Daniel
Smith) Once background paper is *totally* dry, stamp random images
on background using the same ink pad (Images from Stamp Zia -
Large and Small Day Fern, Large and Small Night Fern). Heat set
images.
|
|
Carefully trim vase image. Using the
same colors, carefully paint the cut edges to avoid a glaring
white
cut. Carefully shape the vase into a rounded position and using
double stick foam tape, mount to background.
Using PVA (Marcos Paper) or other similar lightweight adhesive,
glue dried flowers onto background. It is very helpful to do
a dry run arrangement first.
Once adhesive is dry, lightly spray
completed project with matte spray sealer (Duncan). Remove from
painting board, trim and frame as desired.

"Watercolor Garden Quilt"
Stamp Artist - Sharon Sahl
Winning
Entry |
When I first
read the contest rules, I was drawn to the watercolor technique
category even though I didn't know what it meant. A few days
later I thought to look it up in the technique section, but by
then it was too late. A "watercolor technique" from
a previous life as a quilter had captured my imagination. In
a nutshell, fabrics are cut into small squares, sorted by values
and then pieced together minimizing rather than maximizing the
color differences between edges. A value plan is laid out, in
this case, light in top right flowing to dark in bottom left.
I love incorporating ideas from one discipline into another.
Use Magenta Mosiacs 1" x 1" squares or cut your own
1" x 1" squares from cardstock. Remove each tile to
an empty section of the tile backing. Stamp a section of a flower
or leaf stamp, color with watercolor pencils, and blend the colors
with a Dove blender. Make the tiles look like fabric by coloring
the backgrounds. Apply the completed tiles to a piece of text
weight paper in 7 lines of 5 tiles. Work each line paying attention
to the colors of the adjacent tiles, i.e., try to make the colors
flow from light tones at top right to dark tones at bottom left.
After all 35 tiles are in place, trim around the 5"x 7"
block. For borders mount on black cardstock, green patterned
paper, and teal cardstock.
Numbering from top left as if reading lines of text, these are
the stamps I used. The ones I found available from Stamp Club
vendors are listed first, in case you don't need the rest of
them.

Watercolor paper
Black Pigment Ink - Stamp Cabana
Black Embossing Powder - Stamp Cabana
Table Salt
Watercolors - Crayola
Black paper - ?
Acrylic paint - Folkart
Aleene's Tacky Glue
Heat Gun
Technique:
I stamped the Oak Leaf with Peace image with black pigment ink
onto watercolor paper and embossed with black embossing powder.
Then I wet the watercolor paper thoroughly and applied yellows,
browns and oranges to the entire paper. While still wet, I applied
table salt, allowing some salt to clump. When completely dry,
I brushed the salt off and mounted on black paper. |

"Autumn Mist"
Stamp Artist - Becky Partan |
|
For the background papers I mounted
it on, I applied various colors of metallic acrylic paint to
plain yellow paper, smooshing it around to make a random design.
Another background paper was made by spreading Aleene's Tacky
Glue onto kraft paper and heating it with a heat gun until it
bubbled. When cool, I applied Copper metallic acrylic paint.
The other piece of background paper was a piece of left over
watercolor paper that I painted with gold acrylic paint.
I mounted all 3 background papers on
white cardstock, then mounted the watercolored design.

A friend is someone who knows the song to your heart and sings

Supplies
90lb water color paper, Marvy
markers, water color pallet, watercolor brushes, water, 2 sided
tape, fox river blue confetti cs, bone folder, corner rounder
Directions
2 sheets 9X12 90lb water color paper
First I cut into 1 piece, 2 ½"
X 3 ½"
Stamp vases with flowers on this paper
with Black Adirodack Dye Ink. I proceeded to paint at this time.
I rubbed my marker in the pallet and dipped my brush in water
and lightly touched the color in pallet to get the effect I wanted.
I started with the vases, then did the ground shadows and between
the white flowers so I wouldnt mess them later. Then I
did the flowers. You only need a very little touch of color and
then the water does the rest with the brush. If you need more
color you just add a little after it drys. To show sun reflection
I touched yellow above. I rounded the corners with a corner rounder.
The next layer I cut was the Burgundy
corrugated 3 ½" X 3 ¾" . I used this
color to bring out the color of the roses.
The next layer I cut was the 4"
X 4 ½". This one I painted blue #29 I put in pallet
then pulled out with wet paintbrush.
The next layer I cut was the 5"
X 4 ¾". This one I painted musty yellow. I put it
again in pallet with yellow marker and pulled out with wet paintbrush.
So they wouldnt curl I put them
on ironing board and put a cotton tea towel on them and ironed
them with a non steam iron.
The cs for the base of the card I cut
from blue confetti cs, 11 X 5 ¾". I folded in half
with bone folder. I then put strips of 2 sided tape on all my
layers. First the flowers were placed on the burgundy square,
then that was placed on the blue square, then that was placed
on the yellow square, then that was placed on the base card.
I stamped a few flowers with blue marker
for ink, then watercolor painted them and cut them out. I put
2 sided tape on them and placed on the front and inside of card
and back to add interest
Also on the inside of the card I put
a verse about a friend with flowers falling out of the card

Trace
pattern from the book "EYELETS FOR CARDS AND MORE",
Available from Posh Impressions.
For the face I used Face Plate LD-1 from Panacheposte.com. Stamp
all the stamps randomly all over the doll using Ancient Page
Coal black ink. When dry use different colors of dye based ink.
I used yo-yo yellow,taken with teal, green galore,lovely lilac,only
orange, positively pink and prettyin pink for the face. All from
Stampin' Up!.
Press down on the cover of the ink pad so some ink gets on the
plastic cover. Add water to that with a water color paint brush,
and now you have watercolors! Paint in your doll. When dry, attach
together with eyelets. Put 5 eyelets in head for hair. Attach
fibers for hair.Add Crystal Effects to head and parts of body
for a shine, and add no hole beads with Red Liner Tape to arms
and body. Attach doll to layers of velumn and cardstock for your
completed card. |
