"Rubber Stamping - Vellum Techniques"

Click Here view a different category from our 4th anniversary contest.

The winners of the vellum techniques category are:
Mary Garvey ~ Jenny Perruzzi ~ Sara Skowbo ~ Barb Sporcic

"Dragonfly Light"
Stamp Artist - Mary Garvey
Winning Entry

Directions:

With the lamp shade template, cut out one from the purple vellum and one from the marbled pink vellum.

With decorative scissors, cut the top and bottom edges of only the marbled pink vellum. With Black Document ink, stamp the dragonfly on the front.

When dry, color from the back with markers. Ink the night ginko stamp with the fluid chalks, and stamp randomly on the back of the pink marbled vellum. Allow to dry. Using the punches, create interest by punching out diamonds at the bottom, and the tiny holes at the top.

Supplies:

  • Vellum - purple and marbled pink
  • Inks - Document Black, Colorbox Fluid Chalks - Alabaster, Wisteria
  • Lamp Shade Templete from Endless-Designs
  • Wine Glass, tea light (both from the Dollar Store)
  • Beaded Fringe
  • Stamps: Stamp Zia Dragonfly (small), Stamp Zia Night Ginko Leaf (small)
  • Fabrico Markers
  • Decorative Scissors, diamonds and small circle punches
  • Terrifically Tacky Tape

Putting it together:
Place the pink marbled vellum on top of the purple vellum while they are still flat. Adhere with a strip of Terrifically Tacky Tape at both "back" edges. Next, figure out how it would look best on the wine glass that you have - adjust it so it fits on the glass, and then use more Terrifically Tacky Tape to secure the lampshade shape you need. Place the lampshade on the glass. Trim any excess vellum where the 2 ends meet. Measure out how much beaded trim is needed for the bottom of the lamp. Place Terrifically Tacky Tape on the ribbon part of the trim. Starting at the back seam, removing only small sections at a time, adhere the fringe to the lamp.

Add a tea light, and you're done.

Winning Entry

Supplies:

White Vellum
Heavy white cardstock
Posh Impressions Stamp a Scene rubber stamp set (AMRSC Vendor)

Stamp images randomly on all 3 pattern pieces using ColorBox and VersaColor ink pads. Dry completely.

Trace "slip" outline onto heavy white cardstock. If using separate hanger, omit the hanger part of the template. Cut out 2 of those slip outlines, so the card can 'open' to write on or stamp a greeting on.

Attach the 2 slip pieces together at the top of each strap using a Glue Dot.

String some white beads onto a strand of the white floss. Using a needle, make a hole on the top folded edge of the vellum dress on each shoulder and secure the floss on the inside with a small piece of tape. Trim closely.

Punch holes where indicated in the small purse pattern and fold; thread a piece of white floss through the holes and tie; glue closed and apply 2 small beads to the front.

Attaching the vellum dress to the cardstock slip is optional; use a small piece of double-sided adhesive tape near the top of the straps to do this.

Happy Autumn
Stamp Artist - Becky Partan
Technique:
I stamped the Oak Leaf with Peace image on handmade paper, using a Colorbox Fluid Chalk Pad in charcoal. I thoroughly wet the paper and applied watercolors in oranges, browns, and yellows, allowing the colors to run together and completely color the handmade paper. I tore the image out and used a glue stick to adhere it to green cardstock. I then stamped the same image on vellum, and tore it so that only part of the image was left. I lined it up with the image on the handmade paper and attached it to the card with eyelets. I threaded fibers through one of the eyelets, and wrote "happy autumn" in handwriting.

Then I took several strips of the peel n stick tape to the very edges of the front strip that is decorated and adhered solid colors of gold and copper leafing foils-the gold on the long strips of tape, the copper on the short sides. I then punched holes on the middle of each end, on both pieces of vellum, then tied the metallic embroidery thread through the holes.
