|
Make the backgrounds on white glossy
cardstock by randomly applying chalk inks using cosmetic wedges.
Start with lightest color and end with the darkest applying the
darker color sparingly. In this instance, the order was Olive
Pastel, Dark Moss, Chestnut Roan and ending with Warm Red. Once
the ink is dry use a soft towel to gently buff and remove the
excess chalk to reveal a vibrant and glossy background. On the
smaller panel, stamp four leaves using one of each of the chalk
inks.
Stamp the leaf image randomly on the
acetate using the gold Brilliance ink. Allow to completely dry
overnight before handling or it may smudge. Heat setting with
heat tool is an option, being mindful not to overheat causing
the acetate to curl. Place the acetate over the smaller chalk
background and set with four eyelets. Layer over remaining cardstock
pieces and adhere all pieces to card.

- Dove Blender
- Krylon Gold Pen
- Green Mulberry Paper, Text weight paper,
Light cardstock
- GreenEmbroidery Thread, Beads, Glue,
Drill, Small clamps, Scissors

Instructions: Using the chalk marbling technique make a background
paper to cover the light cardboard for the journal covers. Fill
a shallow pan with water. Using a knife, scrape enough chalk
into the water to lightly cover. Use two colors. Then lightly
swirl the water to make the chalk marbled looking. Take your
white card stock and lay on top of the water. Pull out carefully,
and put aside to dry. There will be enough chalk in the water
to do a second sheet but it will be lighter. This is good to
use for the back cover. After these are dry, spray with Krylon
Matte finish to set chalk. Trim them to a half an inch larger
around then the light cardboard. Then glue the marbled
paper to the cardboard leaving a space in the cardboard for the
hinges in the cover. Milter the corners of the cardstock, wrap
the excess cardstock around to the back of the cardboard and
glue down. Do this for the back cover also. Put under something
heavy to dry. Cut text paper to cover size and set aside
untill ready to assemble.
Stamp the Magnolia on white cardstock with black ink. Color with
chalks and use a Dove blender to blend and shade. Cut to desired
size and outline with Krylon Gold pen. Spray with Krylon Matte
finish to set chalks. Tear the mulberry paper a little larger
then flower. Glue both of these to the front cover.Put the text
paper between the front and back covers and clamp to hold in
place while binding the journal. Drill the appropriate
holes for a Japanese Stab Binding. Using embroidery thread bind
the journal, tie off and put beads on the ends. Enjoy your journal.

tag with torn mulberry paper, attach a punched dragonfly and
mount whole tag onto shiny pink card. Fix pink eyelet in hole.

and then shrink and varnish. Put a pin through hole while drying
to stop varnish clogging it up!
Putting together:
Cut several short lengths of fibres and put through tag. Before
knotting it, thread one of the fibres through the loop on the

Directions:
Cut a sheet of speckled blue cardstock in half and stamp
lg. Sunfish with Versamark ink. Place a mask over the lg. Sunfish
and stamp several sm. Sunfish around the lg. one. |
| Take the yellow
chalk on a cosmetic sponge and rub it across the bottom of all
the fish around the gills and stomach. Then add red and blue
and dark gray on the top. Brush some gray over the smaller fish
to add some distance. Touch up the eyes with black in the center
and yellow/green for the irises. Highlight upper areas and fins
of fish with a white gel pen. If the small fish look too outstanding,
after this is done brush them with a bit more gray. Brush background
with a teal chalk and trim off ¼ inch of the edges. Use
a scrap of cardstock and punch one corner to get the size you
will need for the cream layer and cut to size. Punch the corners
of the cream cardstock and place the corners of the blue CS.
in the slots. Trim the edges of the cream CS. To about 1/8 inch.
Fold green CS. In half and attach the layers. |
